Even if summer is not your vacation time, summer week-ends do offer a chance to getaway and simply be in four new walls or some other place for a brief time. This means that fall is not only harvest time for farmers it is also the time when the academic year and a church program year begin, bringing us all back together as a community. It has been awhile for lots of reasons since we have seen each other and September 11th has been designated Welcome Back Sunday for that reason.
Here's what you will find between the services and after 10:30: a ministry fair-with opportunities to sign-up for a host of ministries here at Emmanuel; a new parish directory so that we can all stay in touch with one another, a brochure on our excellent adult forum series for the coming year and of course a chance to talk to all of your friends who are part of this congregation and make new ones. In addition, this Sunday we will be commissioning the search committee members and blessing new altar hangings.
Here's a taste of the fall here at Emmanuel: beginning a new service on September 18th of contemplative Eucharist and healing prayer at 5:30 pm, September 25th will be social media Sunday;October 2 will be the singing of the contemporary choir mass Gaia and the blessing of animals. The search committee will be conducting listening sessions for all of you to speak to what Emmanuel means to you and what you are seeking in a new rector, and the list goes on.
You see summer hasn't been very quiet here... we are so excited that you are back with us, or with us for the first time. Welcome back!!!
