Emmanuel has long been renowned for the special emphasis it places on the connection between creative expression and worship. Our music program is revered as one of the best in the city of Baltimore, and our liturgy is often interspersed with poetry.
Emmanuel’s “beat of a different drummer” mentality is perfectly expressed by its music. Although the mainstay of the repertoire is grounded in the Anglican cathedral choir tradition, there is great variety and creativity that takes places in the musical expression of our weekly Sunday liturgy.
Emmanuel is equipped with a three manual (37 stops, 39 ranks) Létourneau pipe organ, which can be heard almost every Sunday, but our services usually include more than just organ music. We believe that all musical genres and styles have a place in our communal worship, and we celebrate that musical diversity every time we worship together.
The accomplished Emmanuel Choir is an entirely professional mixed-voice ensemble, and performs pieces ranging from medieval chant to contemporary jazz to global music. The choir sings every Sunday during the 10:30 service between Labor Day and Trinity Sunday, and their voices are prominently featured in the many special services that occur throughout the year. Their collective talent, training, and experience elevate the experience of Emmanuel's weekly worship.
